William Blake and George Elliot aka Tyger and George

Well, I suppose today is as good of a day to tell you how I manifested a cat.

When we talk about a big enough why, one of my whys for getting my first job (aka going to college, getting good grades, graduating and getting a job) was so I could have pets. I grew up allergic to cats and knew once I was on my own and had health insurance I could get allergy medicine and have cat. Well, I ended up with two of the fattest and sweetest fur children a girl could love and after 13 years, the both died. And I am still heartbroken, even after seven years. They were the children I never had and sources of laughter, annoyance and unconditional (cat) love.

My current situation is not the most conducive for a pet. I travel a lot and my income as well as my life in general as of late has been far from stable. So when a friend posted that her cat was having babies and thought I might want one, I said no. I can’t afford one. If you’ve ever had a pet, you know there are monthly costs, daily obligations and random emergencies. And in my life right now, the only way I could have a pet is if someone were to pay for me to keep it. It’s a random request, but it was a thought I had. If someone were to pay for the cat food and litter and vet bills, sure I’ll take one!

And then the universe said oh, really? Hold my beer.... A dear friend is sick and needs to return to another country. She posted on FB that she would take care of all the expenses if someone could watch her cat for 6-9 months. I read the post and was like, oh. Hmm. Nah. My apartment is a mess. And I watched as people chimed in and offered help or boosted the post, and that little small voice was like, um, didn’t you say you wanted a cat if someone else would pay for it?

I was faced with the universe offering me EXACTLY what I wanted a furry, black cat that was paid for already. So I sent my friend a message and set up a date to meet the cat. I mean, we would have to like each other to some extent. And I needed to know if there was anything that important about the cat that would make us not a match.

Tara-Chan is a cuddly and playful boy who likes male energy and does not like small children. He is sociable and doesn’t get into too much trouble (we’ll see - my apartment is a wonderland). He bites when he plays, but doesn’t break skin. And he’ll be mine around the second week of June until my friend can bring him to her new home. She’ll have his food and litter delivered to my apartment, and she’ll leave me with some cash for emergencies. Just what I wanted. A cat that is paid for already. I said yes to the universe.

Are you ready to do the same?

Tara-chan
